Zusammenfassung: Synchrotron scattering experiments find an ordered NiAl monolayer on top of the (110) surface of a disordered Ni90%-Al bulk material. A first-principles based theoretical understanding of surface segregation and ordering at the (110) surface of Ni90%-Al is the central aim of the work. In the first half of the thesis the concept of "Ab-initio Statistical Mechanics" is introduced and extended to surfaces. In order to map the interactions between atoms on effective cluster expansion coefficients, the potential expansion method is developed. Thereby the cluster expansion method is generalized to confined geometries. In the second half of the work numerous ab-initio calculations for various NiAl surface configuratons are mapped with the help of the cluster expansion method. From the cluster expansion of the surface energetics a detailed understanding of the experimental results is obtained. Predictions for quantities not measured in the experiments (such as different bulk concentrations of NiAl) are made. Finite temperature calculations for the segregation behavior of Al are carried out with the cluster varation method.
