How to speed up BDD automated acceptance testing for safety-critical systems
    (2018) Degutis, Daniel Ryan
An important aspect of developing safety-critical systems is testing, and in some cases an agile development and testing approach is desirable. To reflect and test safety requirements, a process based on Behavior Driven Development (BDD) is considered in this work. The goal is to have an as efficient as possible process for BDD automated acceptance testing. The original process for this, used in an earlier experiment, is examined and automatable parts are identified. Based on this, improvements to the process are proposed and implemented. This results in an updated process, that utilizes a newly implemented command line tool written for the purpose of producing test cases. These can then be used for the BDD automated acceptance testing process. Finally, an evaluation with students BDD acceptance testing a sample system is conducted, to determine the effectiveness of the improved process. The results of the evaluation show benefits in productivity when using the improved process.

A meta-approach to guide architectural refactoring from monolithic applications to microservices
    (2020) Gu, Qiwen
The concept of microservices in the software development industry is getting growing attention nowadays. This architectural style is widely discussed both in industry and academia. Refactoring a monolithic application into a microservice application is common practice. Nevertheless, software architects and developers often find it di cult because they lack a structured overview of various migration approaches. Even though literature views about microservice migration were conducted, they were either obsolete or did not follow a systematic approach to ensure correctness and reproducibility of results. The goal of this study is to provide a classification framework as well as a web-based tool that can guide software architects and developers to comprehend up-to-date migration approaches and select a suitable one according to their requirements. In order to achieve this, a systematic literature review was conducted, resulting in thirty-one contributions from 2017 to 2020. Next, a web-based tool was developed based on the knowledge repository created after review. An evaluation of the developed tool by experts and students in the field revealed that it was able to serve the predefined purpose. The proposed framework, as well as the web-based tool, can provide the users a comprehensive overview of microservice migration and various practical approaches. Keywords: Microservices, Monolith Migration, Architectural Refactoring, Microservice Migration Framework

Detecting anomalies in system log files using machine learning techniques
    (2014) Zwietasch, Tim
Log files, which are produced in almost all larger computer systems today, contain highly valuable information about the health and behavior of the system and thus they are consulted very often in order to analyze behavioral aspects of the system. Because of the very high number of log entries produced in some systems, it is however extremely difficult to find relevant information in these files. Computer-based log analysis techniques are therefore indispensable for the process of finding relevant data in log files. However, a big problem in finding important events in log files is, that one single event without any context does not always provide enough information to detect the cause of the error, nor enough information to be detected by simple algorithms like the search with regular expressions. In this work, three different data representations for textual information are developed and evaluated, which focus on the contextual relationship between the data in the input. A new position-based anomaly detection algorithm is implemented and compared to various existing algorithms based on the three new representations. The algorithms are executed on a semantically filtered set of a labeled BlueGene/L log file and evaluated by analyzing the correlation between the labels contained in the log file and the anomalous events created by the algorithms. The results show, that the developed anomaly detection algorithm generates the most correlating set of anomalies by using one of the three representations.

Analysis of leadership and personality styles in a software project
    (2017) Theil, Karl-Heinz
Given the current data on how software engineers are working together with their leader, you will most likely find a lot of data that is outdated or not focused on the software engineering part. Behavioral Software Engineering tries to change the focus to the software engineering part. The path is hard though because the information for this topic is sparse. This bachelors thesis contributes to the few sources out there who try to understand how software engineers are coping with the leadership styles of their leaders. By analyzing the personality traits of two teams and comparing them to the different leadership styles I am trying to outline what the styles and traits have in common and how they are interacting with each other. This will help team leaders understand their leadership style and how they are affecting their team with their behavior.

Automatisierte Transformation von Daten aus Software Repositories und ihre Vorbereitung für Data Mining
    (2015) Lehmann, Simon

Visualization of performance antipattern detection results
    (2018) Popp, Matthias
In many cases developers do not understand appearing performance problems after the implementation or some changes. The problems can often be traced back to same root causes, which are present in many different software systems. Some of these problems are collected and analyzed, called anti-patterns, and can be detected by software diagnosis tools. Thus, organizations are using application performance management (APM) tools, to detect bottlenecks and other performance problems in their product. To support the developers, this thesis will deal with visualization of detected anti-patterns. Information about the anti-pattern, individual data from the system under test (SUT) to understand the problem and their solutions are a part of the report. The result of the work will be a prototype framework, which uses available diagnosis and APM results to generate the visualized based report, e.g. stack traces and time series.

A-CAST: Entwicklung eines Plugin-basierten Tools zur Unfallanalyse mit CAST (Causal Accident Analysis)
    (2015) Root, Martin
