Diese Einschätzung ist richtig, wenn sie mittel- und langfristig verstanden wird; sie ist falsch, wenn man erwartet, rasche Hilfe zu bekommen, die Versäumnisse in der Methodik und Schulung ausgleicht. Die heute angebotenen Werkzeuge weisen charakteristische Mängel auf, die - entgegen den Ankündigungen - ihren durchgehenden Einsatz sehr schwer machen. Trotzdem kann unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen, auch organisatorischen, die Qualität des Entwicklungsprozesses tatsächlich erhöht werden. Diese Verbesserung wirkt sich auch auf die Produktivität aus.Item Open Access Stakeholder identification for a structured release planning approach in the automotive domain(2022) Marner, Kristina; Wagner, Stefan; Ruhe, GuentherIn regulated domains like automotive, release planning is a complex process. This complex process consists of an agreement between product development processes for hardware as well as mechanic systems and approaches for software development. Particularly in automotive, the creation and synchronization of release plans for hardware as well as software is a challenge. Within the whole complex system development, it is challenging to consider the relevant stakeholders in the initial creation of a release plan. Depending on the context that a release plan shall be created for, there are different stakeholders that have to be considered from the beginning. There are numerous publications in the area of release planning, but there is no detailed research that shows which stakeholders have to be addressed in the automotive context. The aim of this work is to identify stakeholders of a release plan as an appropriate approach to create transparency in release planning in the automotive domain. Action research to elaborate relevant stakeholders for release planning was conducted at Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG. We present a detailed overview of identified stakeholders as well as their required content and added value regarding two pilot projects. With this contribution, identified stakeholders of release planning from the hardware and software points of view are introduced. We discuss, based on the results, why there are common stakeholders for the two projects and why there are individual stakeholders for each project. With this work, we present a more complete stakeholder identification and a more detailed understanding of their needs.Item Open Access Field study on requirements engineering: investigation of artefacts, project parameters, and execution strategies(2012) Méndez Fernández, Daniel; Wagner, Stefan; Lochmann, Klaus; Baumann, Andrea; Carne, Holger deContext Requirements Engineering (RE) is a critical discipline mostly driven by uncertainty, since it is influenced by the customer domain or by the development process model used. Volatile project environments restrict the choice of methods and the decision about which artefacts to produce in RE. Objective We aim to investigate RE processes in successful project environments to discover characteristics and strategies that allow us to elaborate RE tailoring approaches in the future. Method We perform a field study on a set of projects at one company. First, we investigate by content analysis which RE artefacts were produced in each project and to what extent they were produced. Second, we perform qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews to discover project parameters that relate to the produced artefacts. Third, we use cluster analysis to infer artefact patterns and probable RE execution strategies, which are the responses to specific project parameters. Fourth, we investigate by statistical tests the effort spent in each strategy in relation to the effort spent in change requests to evaluate the efficiency of execution strategies. Results We identified three artefact patterns and corresponding execution strategies. Each strategy covers different project parameters that impact the creation of certain artefacts. The effort analysis shows that the strategies have no significant differences in their effort and efficiency. Conclusions In contrast to our initial assumption that an increased effort in requirements engineering lowers the probability of change requests or project failures in general, our results show no statistically significant difference between the efficiency of the strategies. In addition, it turned out that many parameters considered as the main causes for project failures can be successfully handled. Hence, practitioners can apply the artefact patterns and related project parameters to tailor the RE process according to individual project characteristics.Item Open Access Influence of temperature and electrolyte composition on the performance of lithium metal anodes(2021) Boroujeni, Sanaz Momeni; Fill, Alexander; Ridder, Alexander; Birke, Kai PeterLithium metal anodes have again attracted widespread attention due to the continuously growing demand of cells with higher energy density. However, the lithium deposition mechanism and the affecting process of influencing factors, such as temperature, cycling current density, and electrolyte composition are not fully understood and require further investigation. In this article, the behavior of lithium metal anode at different temperatures (25, 40, and 60 ∘C), lithium salts, electrolyte concentrations (1 and 2 M), and the applied cell current (equivalent to 0.5 C, 1 C, and 2 C). is investigated. Two different salts were evaluated: lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesul-fonyl)imide (LiTFSI). The cells at a medium temperature (40 ∘C) show the highest Coulombic efficiency (CE). However, shorter cycle life is observed compared to the experiments at room temperature (25 ∘C). Regardless of electrolyte type and C-rate, the higher temperature of 60 ∘C provides the worst Coulombic efficiency and cycle life among those at the examined temperatures. A higher C-rate has a positive effect on the stability over the cycle life of the lithium cells. The best performance in terms of long cycle life and relatively good Coulombic efficiency is achieved by fast charging the cell with high concentration LiFSI in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) electrolyte at a temperature of 25 ∘C. The cell has an average Coulombic efficiency of 0.987 over 223 cycles. In addition to galvanostatic experiments, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were performed to study the evolution of the interface under different conditions during cycling.Item Open Access Joint state composition theorems for public-key encryption and digital signature functionalities with local computation(2020) Küsters, Ralf; Tuengerthal, Max; Rausch, DanielIn frameworks for universal composability, complex protocols can be built from sub-protocols in a modular way using composition theorems. However, as first pointed out and studied by Canetti and Rabin, this modular approach often leads to impractical implementations. For example, when using a functionality for digital signatures within a more complex protocol, parties have to generate new verification and signing keys for every session of the protocol. This motivates to generalize composition theorems to so-called joint state (composition) theorems, where different copies of a functionality may share some state, e.g., the same verification and signing keys. In this paper, we present a joint state theorem which is more general than the original theorem of Canetti and Rabin, for which several problems and limitations are pointed out. We apply our theorem to obtain joint state realizations for three functionalities: public-key encryption, replayable public-key encryption, and digital signatures. Unlike most other formulations, our functionalities model that ciphertexts and signatures are computed locally, rather than being provided by the adversary. To obtain the joint state realizations, the functionalities have to be designed carefully. Other formulations proposed in the literature are shown to be unsuitable. Our work is based on the IITM model. Our definitions and results demonstrate the expressivity and simplicity of this model. For example, unlike Canetti’s UC model, in the IITM model no explicit joint state operator needs to be defined and the joint state theorem follows immediately from the composition theorem in the IITM model.Item Open Access A GPU-accelerated light-field super-resolution framework based on mixed noise model and weighted regularization(2022) Tran, Trung-Hieu; Sun, Kaicong; Simon, SvenLight-field (LF) super-resolution (SR) plays an essential role in alleviating the current technology challenge in the acquisition of a 4D LF, which assembles both high-density angular and spatial information. Due to the algorithm complexity and data-intensive property of LF images, LFSR demands a significant computational effort and results in a long CPU processing time. This paper presents a GPU-accelerated computational framework for reconstructing high-resolution (HR) LF images under a mixed Gaussian-Impulse noise condition. The main focus is on developing a high-performance approach considering processing speed and reconstruction quality. From a statistical perspective, we derive a joint ℓ1- ℓ2data fidelity term for penalizing the HR reconstruction error taking into account the mixed noise situation. For regularization, we employ the weighted non-local total variation approach, which allows us to effectively realize LF image prior through a proper weighting scheme. We show that the alternating direction method of the multipliers algorithm (ADMM) can be used to simplify the computation complexity and results in a high-performance parallel computation on the GPU Platform. An extensive experiment is conducted on both synthetic 4D LF dataset and natural image dataset to validate the proposed SR model’s robustness and evaluate the accelerated optimizer’s performance. The experimental results show that our approach achieves better reconstruction quality under severe mixed-noise conditions as compared to the state-of-the-art approaches. In addition, the proposed approach overcomes the limitation of the previous work in handling large-scale SR tasks. While fitting within a single off-the-shelf GPU, the proposed accelerator provides an average speedup of 2.46 ×and 1.57 ×for ×2and ×3SR tasks, respectively. In addition, a speedup of 77×is achieved as compared to CPU execution.Item Open Access An empirical study on changing leadership in agile teams(2021) Spiegler, Simone V.; Heinecke, Christoph; Wagner, StefanAn increasing number of companies aim to enable their development teams to work in an agile manner. When introducing agile teams, companies face several challenges. This paper explores the kind of leadership needed to support teams to work in an agile way. One theoretical agile leadership concept describes a Scrum Master who is supposed to empower the team to lead itself. Empirical findings on such a leadership role are controversial. We still have not understood how leadership unfolds in a team that is by definition self-organizing. Further exploration is needed to better understand leadership in agile teams. Our goal is to explore how leadership changes while the team matures using the example of the Scrum Master. Through a grounded theory study containing 75 practitioners from 11 divisions at the Robert Bosch GmbH we identified a set of nine leadership roles that are transferred from the Scrum Master to the Development Team while it matures. We uncovered that a leadership gap and a supportive internal team climate are enablers of the role transfer process, whereas role conflicts may diminish the role transfer. To make the Scrum Master change in a mature team, team members need to receive trust and freedom to take on a leadership role which was previously filled by the Scrum Master. We conclude with practical implications for managers, Product Owners, Development Teams and Scrum Masters which they can apply in real settings.Item Open Access Editorial - perspectives for natural language processing between AI, linguistics and cognitive science(2022) Lenci, Alessandro; Padó, SebastianItem Open Access Evaluate and control service and transaction dependability of complex IoT systems(2021) Niedermaier, Sina; Zelenik, Thommy; Heisse, Stefan; Wagner, StefanObserving and controlling the dependability of service provision of complex IoT systems is challenging. In practice, many organizations struggle to derive consumer needs related to quality and to observe and quantify the service provision in the context of the dynamic behavior of a complex distributed system. In this paper, we present an approach to define and evaluate the dependability of complex IoT systems. Our approach is an adaptation of the ISO/IEC 25040, an international standard for the evaluation process for system and software quality, which is part of the systems and software quality requirements and evaluation (SQuaRE) series. Our approach was designed and evaluated with action research in an industrial study at Robert Bosch GmbH. Based on the framework of the SQuaRE series, we integrated different elements of site reliability engineering (SRE) and combined them with distributed tracing as a promising measurement method. Our approach introduces the IoT transaction concept to reduce modeling and observation efforts while increasing operationalization to measure performance against dependability targets. Our adaption was effectively applied, consumer-centricity along different system stakeholders were enhanced, and negative consequences of organizational silos were reduced.
