Item Open Access Resonant Raman scattering from superconducting single crystals of (BEDT-TTF)2I3(1993) Pokhodnia, Konstantin I.; Graja, Andrzej; Weger, Meir; Schweitzer, DieterA study of low energetic resonant Raman scattering of (BEDT-TTF)2I3 superconducors was performed. The vanishing of phonon bands accompanied by a decrease of the electronic background was observed below Tc. We propose a theoretical explanation for this novel effect in terms of the Balseiro-Falicov model of phonon-superconducting amplitude mode interaction.Item Open Access Kinetics of the triplet state of 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline from microwave-induced phosphorescence transients(1973) Schweitzer, Dieter; Zuclich, Joseph A.; Maki, August H.The phosphorescent state of 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline doped into single crystals of durene and 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene has been studied using several methods based upon optical detection of magnetic resonance (ODMR). Flash excitation and continuous optical pumping methods are described and analysed. Phosphorescent transient effects caused by spin-lattice relaxation and variable intersystem crossing rates are observed and described using first-order solutions of the appropriate rate equations. The effects of spatial polarization of the phosphorescence (anisotropic spatial distribution of phosphorescence intensity) of single crystals on ODMR signals is observed and discussed. The spatial polarization of emission can cause difficulties in determining relative radiative rate constants of the triplet sublevels in oriented samples, but can yield information about the linear polarization of the emission analogous to that obtained by conventional means using polarizers.Item Open Access Metallic coordination polymers using CS2 as starting material(1987) Keller, Heimo J.; Klutz, Thomas; Münstedt, Helmut; Renner, Gerd; Schweitzer, DieterOrganic polymers with "metallic" properties have found widespread interest during the last few years. Acetylene and aniline as well as different nitrogen and sulfur heterocycles have been used as starting materials. One main problem hampering the technical application of these solids up to now is their environmental and thermal instability. Therefore, we introduced metal ions to stabilize polymeric backbones with high electrical conductivity. Because of the enormous coordination ability of sulfur to many transition metal ions we decided to use a polymeric carbon-sulfur backbone.Item Open Access Electrons and holes in InSb under crossed magnetic and stress fields. 1, Theory(1988) Trebin, Hans-Rainer; Wolfstädter, Bernd; Pascher, Harald; Häfele, Hans-GeorgIn a series of four papers magnetooptical transitions are presented for InSb crystals, which are subjected to uniaxial stress perpendicular to the magnetic field. Here, in the first paper, we establish an 8×8 k⋅p Hamiltonian matrix for stress Tǁ[100] and field Bǁ[001] and diagonalize it exactly. The dependence of valence and conduction states on stress and longitudinal momentum is discussed and compared with the geometry of parallel fields TǁBǁ[001]. Characteristic features are extracted for inter- and intraband transitions. Under crossed fields, the levels are separated much stronger with stress, yielding more insight than in the parallel configuration.Item Open Access Matching rules for quasicrystals : the composition-decomposition method(1993) Gähler, FranzA general method is presented which proves that an appropriately chosen set of matching rules for a quasiperiodic tiling enforces quasiperiodicity. This method, which is based on self-similarity, is formulated in general terms to make it applicable to many different situations. The method is then illustrated with two examples, one of which is a new set of matching rules for a dodecagonal tiling.Item Open Access Liquid-crystalline blue phase III and structures of broken icosahedral symmetry(1993) Longa, Lech; Fink, Werner; Trebin, Hans-RainerThe structure of the liquid-crystalline blue phase III (BPIII) is still unknown and remains one of the mysteries of liquid-crystal physics. We take all icosahedral space-group symmetries of the reciprocal space for BPIII and study their thermodynamic stability within the frame of an extended de Gennes–Ginzburg–Landau free-energy expansion. The stability of the icosahedral structures is compared with that of the cholesteric phase and of the cubic blue phases. Strikingly, even though the extended model contains three extra parameters, we could not detect a region of parameter space where icosahedral structures are absolutely stable just below the isotropic phase. Item Open Access Zero bias anomalies in point-contact characteristics of αt-(BEDT-TTF)2I3(1994) Ernst, Gabriele; Nowack, Andreas; Weger, Meir; Schweitzer, DieterThe zero-bias anomaly in point-contact characteristics of the organic superconductor α-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 is investigated as a function of temperature and magnetic field. It is found that the zero-bias anomaly is insensitive to magnetic fields up to 5 T. In contrast, a structure at 5 meV, conventionally designated as the superconducting gap - but which is 4 times larger than the expected BCS gap - is strongly affected by magnetic fields above 1 T.Item Open Access Plasma reflectance of the one-dimensional organic metals of the type (arene)2XF6(arene=perylene, pyrene or fluoranthene ; X=P, As, Sb)(1983) Geserich, Hans Peter; Koch, Bertram; Ruppel, Wolfgang; Wilckens, Rudolf; Schweitzer, Dieter; Enkelmann, Volker; Wegner, Gerhard; Wieners, Gerhard; Keller, Heimo J.We have investigated the spectral position and the form of the plasma edge of different radical cation salts of the type (arene)zXF, independence of the type of the organic donor molecule, and of the charge transfer between donor and acceptor molecules.
