Synthetic and mechanistic prospects of homogeneous gold catalysis
(2009) Pankajakshan, Sreekumar; Hashmi, A. Stephen K. (Prof. Dr.)
    a) The first chapter of this thesis manifests the exploration of homogeneous gold-catalyzed conversions of furan containing aryl-ynamides and ynol ethers. Enynes boast to be the most explored substrate structures in the realm of homogeneous gold catalysis, whereas the reactivity of ene-ynamides and ene-ynol ethers are much less explored till date.34, 45 Hashmi and co-workers recently reported the homogeneous gold-catalyzed synthesis of phenols from furan containing ynamides/ynol ethers.45e These substrates showed excellent reactivity and selectivity apparently owing to the heteroatom directly attached to the alkyne unit. Impressed with the reactivity and high selectivity of these systems, we decided to explore the catalytic activity of the aryl substituted variants of these compounds. Gold catalysis of aryl-ynamides The aryl-ynamide substrates turned out to be interesting candidates for gold catalysis. The mode of reactivity depended on the tether length. The substrates with two carbon tether underwent a Friedel-Crafts type reaction upon subjected to gold catalysts and furnished benzannulated arenes in moderate to excellent yields (Scheme C). A combination of Ph3PAuCl /AgBF4 (5 mol%, 1:1) in CH2Cl2 or CHCl3 was found to be the best choice of catalyst. The reaction conditions were mild and a broad spectrum of polyarenes and polyheteroarenes were synthesized. The substrates carrying an unactivated arene failed to react even under higher temperature and prolonged reaction time. The gold catalysis of substrates 58r-58t with a longer tether took a completely different pathway and gave rise to cyclopentadiene structures (Scheme D). Similar to shorter tethered substrates, electron withdrawing groups on the arene were not tolerated. b) The second chapter of this thesis deals with the development of gold-catalyzed transformations of furan containing alkynes that prove the potential intermediacy of a cationic intermediate in these types of reactions. The actual electronic state of the intermediate in gold-catalyzed enyne cycloisomerizations is a hot spot in recent scientific reports.20a-c A cyclopropyl "carbene" form of the intermediate has been used by most of the authors. But it is important to note that such a species is yet to be isolated or characterized spectroscopically. Recently Fürstner et al., proposed remarkable experimental evidence for the involvement of the cationic form of this intermediate in gold-catalyzed cyclizations.20a,20c The scenario demands the consideration of the actual electronic state of the intermediate as a mesomeric/tautomeric package of different canonical forms (Scheme H). In the context of this thesis it was found that furyl-alkynes carrying electron donating substituents in the α-position of the tether led to the formation of unexpected five-membered structures (instead of the expected phenols) when subjected to gold catalysts (Scheme I). The observed reactivity pattern for the substrates 116/118 was highly informative and served as an experimental evidence for the significant contribution of the cationic form of the intermediate AO in the mesomeric/tautomeric equilibria shown in the scheme H. A mechanistic proposal based on this intermediate was suggested for this hitherto unknown transformation in the gold catalysis of furyl-alkynes (Scheme J). c) The third chapter of this thesis elaborates the unexpected formation of N,O-acetals from oxanorbornadienes-the potential precursors for phenols- upon exposure to gold and other Lewis acids (Scheme K). AuCl was found to be the best Lewis acid catalyst under the given conditions, and Yb(CF3SO3)3 also showed remarkable reactivity. The generality and the absence of any other products/side products confirmed that the reactions followed general acid catalysis. The observation that there is a net reversal in the connectivity of the tether in the product hinted at a complex mechanism operating in the process. d) The fourth chapter of this thesis describes the investigations carried out on the aerobic oxidation reactions catalyzed by gold. A homogeneous catalytic system comprising of gold(I) chloride, n-butyl lithium and sodium carbonate was developed and was found to oxidize primary aromatic alcohols to aldehydes. The system was poor in activity towards aliphatic and secondary alcohols (Scheme L).

Dimensions of proximity and localisation of knowledge-intensive producer services : the case of software services for automotive industry in Stuttgart region
(2009) Tözün, Reha; Gaebe, Wolf (Prof. Dr. rer. pol.)
This thesis primarily examines the spatiality of knowledge-intensive producer services within the framework of knowledge tacitness and aspatial proximities notions. Additionally, based on an example of a West-European location, it links aspatial proximities and regional structural change discourses and explores the significance of lead firms for regional agglomerations. Globalization operates on the significantly lowered trade barriers and mobility of goods, persons and information. In such an environment, knowledge-production and innovation are critical elements of industrial competitiveness, especially for developed countries in Western Europe. As it has been suggested since late 1980's, innovation has a strong interactive component and the knowledge-creation processes tend to localize geographically. However, such processes are do function over geographical distance as well; therefore one needs to consider the non-geographical influences to understand the dynamics involved. The aspatial proximities, which are categorized by Boschma along cognitive, social, organisational and institutional dimensions, provide an intriguing framework to handle the issues regarding the spatiality of knowledge-producing relations between economic actors. Despite the awareness regarding the role of interaction, theories on regional agglomeration phenomenon tend to be more attentive to the supply-side matters. However, the impulses and incentives from demand side do co-define the direction and extent of knowledge production efforts. With the important roles it assigns to local demand and customers, Porter's industrial clusters concept offers a theoretical background for the research interests of this study. Beside aspatial proximities and industrial clusters, this thesis draws on learning regions, long-waves of technological change and regional structural change literatures for its framework of analysis. For the empirical investigation software services for automotive industry in the Stuttgart region were selected. In-depth interviews with regional experts were adopted for the purposes of data collection. The knowledge-intensive producer services relations fundamentally depend on application- and customer-specific knowledge, which is often change-prone and not market-traded. The study revealed that the well-maintained aspatial proximities allow service providers to have sustained access to such knowledge. It was also found that the creation and maintenance of aspatial proximities is related to the availability of spatial proximity between actors and groups. As such, geographical space has a subtle and indirect effect on knowledge production in that it influences cognitive, social and organisational space through which knowledge is generated and shared. The management of aspatial proximities is also a crucial factor for the path-dependant agglomeration of services activities around existing production locations. The study also found out that the coordination challenges induced by the cognitive dynamics of knowledge-production processes strongly affect the spatial proximity requirements of interactive relations. Cognitive dynamics is defined by the tacitness of knowledge content and the processes characteristics. While tacitness creates the need for face-to-face exchanges, time constraints and interfaces between knowledge-production processes compel actors to have more frequent meetings. Under conditions where highly tacit knowledge content has to be co-produced and shared in short time intervals across numerous processes run by different teams, groups of actors are compelled to engage in more frequent face-to-face interaction in order to avoid knowledge mismatches and miscomprehension. As such, the serviceability of such relations decreases with distance and increasing geographical space between partners escalates transaction costs, which in return impels parties to locate near each other. However, the codifiability of knowledge content and the manageability of processes change these dynamics and spatial proximity becomes a choice rather than a requirement. Provided that their operations contain active technology-oriented and knowledge-production functions, lead firms can act as the nodes of regional knowledge-production networks in clusters. The evidence collected for this study suggests that besides acting as demanding local customers à la Porter, they actively co-develop innovations and enrich knowledge capital of a cluster.

An extended biphasic description of the inhomogeneous and anisotropic intervertebral disc
(2009) Karajan, Nils; Ehlers, Wolfgang (Prof. Dr.-Ing.)
It is the aim of this contribution to develop a finite element model, which is as simple as possible, but at the same time complex enough to capture many of the occurring tissue properties of the intervertebral disc (IVD). In order to better understand these properties from an engineering point of view, the needed basic anatomical knowledge is briefly reviewed in the beginning of this treatise, thereby addressing the lumbar spine with focus on the IVD and its material properties. In particular, the IVD appears as the largest avascular part of the body and its microstructure leads to an electro-chemically active material with anisotropic, inhomogeneous and strongly dissipative behaviour. In the following main part of this work, the complete continuum-mechanical modelling process is extensively discussed as well as the numerical treatment of the resulting governing equations. Starting from the thermodynamically consistent Theory of Porous Media (TPM), two phases and three components are introduced for the description of IVD tissue. In particular, this is the extracellular matrix (solid skeleton) carrying fixed negative charges which is saturated by a pore fluid consisting of a solvent (liquid) as well as anions and cations of a dissolved salt. Following the idea of superimposed continua, an individual motion function is introduced for each of the constituents, whereas the components of the pore fluid are always expressed relative to the deforming solid skeleton. In order to capture the finite kinematics of the inelastic solid skeleton, its deformation gradient is multiplicatively split into inelastic and elastic parts. Next, the materially independent balance equations are derived from the respective master balances and accustomed to the soft biological tissue under study. In order to keep the resulting set of equations as simple as possible, while still keeping the ability to reproduce osmotic effects, an assumption according to Lanir is made. In this context, the tissue is regarded to be always immediately in electro-chemical equilibrium, which allows to describe the electro-chemically active tissue using only an extended biphasic model. Applying van't Hoff's law finally allows to compute the occurring osmotic pressure as a function of the solid displacement. Moreover, in order to characterise the inhomogeneous anisotropic and viscoelastic solid skeleton as well as the viscous pore fluid, several constitutive equations need to be formulated, thereby depending on a thermodynamically admissible set of process variables. Herein, the endangerment of postulating nonphysical constitutive assumptions is avoided by strictly following the restrictions resulting from the evaluation of the entropy inequality. Finally, the chosen constitutive functions of the solid skeleton are based on Ogden-type strain energy functions, which automatically include several simpler material laws. The viscoelastic contribution is based on a generalised Maxwell model which is dominated by the concept of internal variables with linear evolution equations. Finally, the superimposed dissipative effect of the viscous pore fluid is captured using the famous Darcy filter law. As a last step, the applicability of the derived model is proven with realistic computations of the IVD. Herein, the resulting set of governing partial differential equations is discretised in time and space using the finite difference method and the mixed finite element method, respectively. The theoretically introduced material parameters are determined using experimental data as well as material parameters obtained from a vast collection of related literature sources. Since many parameters appear in a coupled manner, their identification is often only possible via inverse computations. Following this, a numerical sensitivity analysis is carried out yielding an indication for the relevant parameters in experiments concerning a motion segment in a short-duration compression-flexion experiment as well as in long-term loading situations. Subsequently, the efficiency of the implementation is demonstrated by a parallel simulation of a lumbar spine segment carried out on 84 processors simultaneously, thereby exhibiting almost one million degrees of freedom.

(2009) Schmidt, Christine; Martin, Ullrich (Prof. Dr.-Ing.)

    (2009) Dennig, Hans-Jörg; Binz, Hansgeorg (Prof. Dr.-Ing.)
Es bedarf also neuer Ansätze.

Volcanic evolution of Southern Tenerife (Canary Islands) during the Pleistocene and Holocene
(2009) Kröchert, Jörg; Buchner, Elmar (PD Dr.)
The Canary Islands are a group of volcanic ocean islands in the Central Atlantic near the continental margin of northwest Africa. Tenerife, with a volcanic history of more than 12 Ma of subaerial eruptions, is the largest island of the Canaries and is situated in the centre of the Archipelago. The Quaternary Bandas del Sur Formation in the South of Tenerife comprises a complex sequence of pyroclastic rocks and lavas and is part of the southern rift zone. In contrast to the northwest and northeast rift zones on Tenerife, the southern rift zone comprises a number of characteristics with respect to the morphological features, eruption cyclicity, and the geochemistry of the volcanic deposits. Various flank eruptions of the Las Cañadas volcano associated with basaltic lavas and the formation of cinder cones within the Bandas del Sur are important volcanic units for understanding the explosive volcanic cycles during the Pleistocene on Tenerife. Paleomagnetic studies, geochemical analysis of major and trace elements, and two radioisotopic dating (K-Ar) have been carried out on prominent cinder cones, to determine their stratigraphic position. By combining the results with previous K-Ar data in the Literature, the cones and lavas can be subdivided into three stratigraphic units. Cinder cones that belong to the first unit show reverse magnetization and Y/Nb ratios between 0.37-0.41; cinder cones of the second unit show normal magnetization and Y/Nb ratios of <0.35. The third unit comprises cinder cones with normal magnetization and Y/Nb ratios of about 0.47. The first two units were constructed between ~0.948-0.779 Ma and 0.323-0.300 Ma. These units define volcanic cycles that culminated in violent Plinian eruptions. The third and youngest unit possibly marks the beginning of a further volcanic cycle that started ~0.095 Ma ago. In order to reconstruct the uplift history of Tenerife, numerous uplifted fossil beaches and tuff cones were investigated. In the North and Northeast of Tenerife, the positions of fossil beaches indicate stable conditions since 130 ka. The uplift rates in southern Tenerife (within the Bandas del Sur) amount to a minimum of 15 m since 778 ka at Montaña Pelada and to a maximum of up to 45 m since 10 ka in the area of El Médano, suggesting an asymmetrical uplift of the island complex. The uplift in the South could be caused by seismic activity or mass loss due to flank collapse events. However, uplift due to ascending magma is more plausible. The fossil beach deposits of the El Médano area exhibit tubular-shaped concretions and concretionary dykes. These sediment structures have been interpreted as the result of a) the interaction between hot ignimbrites that overflowed wet beaches, b) fast accumulation of beach sands on hot and degassing ignimbrites, c) paleoliquefaction caused by an earthquake (seismites). Based on the interpretation as seismites, an intense paleoearthquake was proposed to be responsible for the generation of the paleoliquefaction structures. However, the sedimentary structures in question show the general criteria diagnostic for rhizocretions and root tubules with respect to their orientation, size, branching system, and style of cementation. Faults of a well-defined strike direction that precisely coincides with the southern rift fault system occur in the El Médano site. This fault system was generated contemporaneously with a chain of cinder cones ~948 ka ago. Open fractures in ignimbrites (~668 ka) and the fossil beach deposits (~10 ka) of the El Médano area suggest that the rift-associated fault system has been seismically active in the aftermath and probably is still active. A further fault system striking perpendicular to the rift-associated faults probably originates from a Holocene paleoearthquake of moderate intensity. Earthquake-induced ground effects in the fossil beach deposits of the study area are consistent with seismically induced ground effects of several recent and well-documented earthquakes and gravitational sliding triggered by an intense earthquake in Nicoya/Costa Rica in 1990. Both, the rift-associated and the earthquake-induced fault system, initially produced open cracks in the fossil beach deposits that were occupied by plants and subsequently stabilized by cementation. These results accentuate that the densely settled southern part of Tenerife is latently endangered by volcanic and seismic activity, though, currently, there are no indications of increasing volcanic activity in this region. Uplift due to recent magma loading is not observable and the intensity of a paleoearthquake in the El Médano area was probably considerably lower than mentioned in the literature.

    (2009) Schirra, Roman; Spath, Dieter (Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. E.h.)

(2009) Mazouz, Nadia; Hubig, Christoph (Prof. Dr.)

Experimental investigation of flow boiling of water in narrow rectangular vertical channels
(2009) Sobierska, Ewelina; Groll, Manfred (Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil.)
In the last century electric and electronic devices have become an integral part of our life. Simultaneously, in pursuance of people's nature, needs and demands are incessantly increasing. Consequently, the devices are becoming more convenient (by means of being smaller and lighter) and the number of their functions is rising. One of the restrictions which stop this development is the Joule effect which creates a thermal management problem. Many options to achieve successful cooling are available, ranging from very simple passive cooling to active cryogenics methods. Among those, flow boiling offers very good heat transfer performance taking advantage of the latent heat of vaporisation. During flow boiling in microchannels a liquid coolant is pumped through an array of channels which can be attached to heated surfaces. A closed loop containing an evaporator with microchannels, a micropump and a condenser can be very compact and relatively inexpensive. There are three aspects of flow boiling: flow pattern, pressure drop and heat transfer. All three and their relationship are experimentally investigated in this work with the aim to find the best heat transfer performance conditions. The experiments were carried out in three rectangular channels with hydraulic diameters below 0.5 mm. Deionised water was used as working fluid. The heat transfer and pressure drop were investigated. Additionally a visualisation of two-phase flow was done in order to obtain a better understanding of the heat transfer mechanism. The results of this work can be briefly summarized as follows: The best heat transfer performance was found at thermodynamic vapour qualities close to zero, where slug flow was usually observed. The two-phase pressure drop can be predicted by a separate flow model which is based on governing equations (mass, energy and momentum conservation laws), the Lockhart-Martinelli method and the empirical void fraction equation with constants proposed by Lockhart and Martinelli.
