Abstract

122 golden hamsters, Mesocricetus auratus, experimentally infected with 30 to 800 Dicrocoelium lanceatum metacerceriae demonstrated after massive infection clinical signs of the disease, pathological changes in the liver and even death. Histological examinations of the infected liver showed the presence of cholangitis and pericholangitis, the formation of "false" lobules and a marked cirrhosis. Besides that papillomatous growth of bile duct epithelium, hyperplasia of hepatocytes and the prevalence of lymphoid infiltrates were also noted in the liver tissues.
