Abstract
A stochastic model is suggested based on the essential mechanisms of colony formation, that is on hypha apical elongation and lateral branching. The model proceeds from a special decomposable branching process with a finite number of cell types. Within the framework of the model the mycelial biomass growth is described in three regimes: overcritical, critical and subcritical.
