    XAS investigation of catalytically relevant metal and metal oxides dispersed in inorganic matrices

    In this thesis, XAS technique is prominently used to investigate metals and metal oxide catalysts dispersed in inorganic matrices. Structure of the catalysts, effect of gas adsorption on zeolite based catalysts, kinetic studies of CO interaction with platinum clusters, highly dispersed ruthenium oxide clusters in zeolites have been studied in detail. Theoretical wavelet based methods for EXAFS analysis has been proposed as an additional evaluation step to interpret XAS data. Bridging the gap between the fundamental understanding of how materials work and how the structure of the material, both physical and electronic affect different properties of the materials is an enormous task considering the vast array of materials available today. But, a small but sure step in this direction to augment the knowledge about catalysts with possible technical applications in sustainable energy systems has been attempted in this thesis work.
