    A lexical approach to presupposition and meaning

    This dissertation differs from traditional analysis of presuppositions found in earlier linguistic literature. This dissertation calls for a lexical perspective, which offers a marriage between traditional semantic and pragmatic approaches. It also highlights (shows) the importance the meaning of a word is, for presupposition resolution. Two case studies are included in this dissertation to illustrate the applications of this lexical perspective: The lexical entry for the definite determiner “the”, and the lexical schema for superlative/ordinal NPs.
