This is shown by the photophysical properties of polyenes containing naphthyl, anthryl, and tetraphenylporphyrinyl (TPP) terminal groups. When the anthryl group in 1, which is obtainable by a sequence of Wittig reactions, is selectively excited, strong TPP emission is observed.
