    Applications of nanotechnology in the polymer and textile fields

    Intercalated modification of MMT clay by amino acid followed by surface modification by silane coupling agent to produce DM-MMT clay which is used in the preparation of polyacrylate / MMT nanocomposites by using an In-situ emulsion polymerization of GMA and MMA monomers. Polyolefin / MMT nanocomposites were also synthesised by solution polymerization technique. The effect of MMT nanoparticle addition in the grafting of vinyl monomers onto cotton fabric was elucidated. The effect of nanoclay on the properties of polypropylene nanocomposite fibres prepared by melt spinning technique was also studied.
