This thesis deals with the flamelet modelling of combustion and pollutant formation in SI engines. Three-dimensional computations of the turbulent flow field, the flame propagation, the energy balance and the chemical composition of the gas mixture in the cylinder of SI engines are performed. A computational method for the SI combustion and pollutant formation processes based on flamelet modelling is integrated in a commercial CFD code, and founded on this, a model for the calculation of nitric oxide and carbon monoxide in the high temperature phase is implemented. The model is applied to the M112-3V/DZ VHT SI engine and the Square Piston Research Engine of the Daimler Benz AG. Computational results are compared with available experimental data.
