Abstract
This thesis contains (i) experimental and (ii) numerical techniques to improve the description of fracture. In terms of (i), we provide validation data for high-velocity impact which were extracted by a software which we designed for this purpose. The algorithms to process the motion of parallax and noise containing images are described. In terms of (ii) we compare the FEM and SPH method and propose improved choices for modelling the impact.
