Visualizing insurance risks and accessibility problems with Virtual Reality

Abstract

Since the availability and technology advancement regarding Virtual Reality technologies reached sufficient maturity, utilizing them in the context of education can provide us with novel and rich experiences to acquire knowledge in unprecedented ways. This provides the foundation for the two prototypes being developed in the confines of this thesis. The first prototype will be used in the context of insurance to teach participants about related risks in living-spaces. The second prototype will provide a basis for a accessibility simulation, teaching the user about potential barriers. In addition to the implementation of the first prototype a user study has been conducted. Seitdem die Erhältlichkeit und der technologische Fortschritt von Virtual Reality Technologien eine ausreichende Ausgereiftheit hat, kann das Nutzen dieser im Kontext der Bildung uns mit neuen und reichhaltigen Erfahrungen berreichen welche bisher auf anderen Wegen unbeschritten sind. Das gibt uns die Basis für die beiden Prototypen welche im Kontext dieser wissenschaftlichen Arbeit entwickelt worden sind. Der erste Prototyp wird im Versicherungs-Kontext benutzt, er wird den Teilnehmern Versicherungsrisiken im Wohnraum näherbringen. Der zweite Prototyp wird eine Basis für eine Simulation bieten welche Nutzer über potentielle Barrieren, vor allem im Kontext von Rollstuhlfahrern, lehrt. Zusätzlich zum ersten Prototyp ist auch eine Nutzerstudie durchgeführt worden.
