The report was written in the United States under the first Fazlur R. Khan Fellowship in 1984 and it was completed in Germany afterwards. "Highrise Buildings" was selected by the author as the draft-title for the activities during the fellowship. Under this theme the author studied the single aspects of highrise buildings as for example planning methods, architectural considerations, structuraI systems. This was done by working at the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Herrill in Chicago and San Francisco, it was done by studying at the Illinois Institute of Technology, by visiting and discussing with different people and firms and by visiting lectures at different places. The paper presented here is a condensed result of the studies done during the fellowship with a special view at different places.en
