Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine Eggers' analysis, the assumptions upon which it is based, and its restrictions, both analytically and experimentally under nearly-ideal conditions. A slender, two-dimensional ogival strut, which has a narrow viscous wake and no bilge vortices, is investigated. Eggers' method is applied, using the transverse surface profiles behind the body, obtained both from linearized potential theory and from experiments.
