Abstract: In 2018, 60 years after the foundation stone was laid, the University of Stuttgart Library on the City Centre campus was listed as a historical monument. Planned and built from 1958 to 1961, it is exemplary for the architecture of German post-war modernism. U.S. models and library buildings of Swiss modernism influenced the design and planning of architect Hans Volkart (1895-1965).
